Felipe Adams is a friend of mine from college who now is on staff full time at the Austin House of Prayer. He and his wife Leigh send out a monthly newsletter with updates on their lives and the lives of the ministries they serve. Here is an exert from this month’s update:
“A little over a month ago, Felipe and I took our car to get a new battery. While waiting on the battery to be installed, we took Jake (the dog) on a little walk into a futon store across the street. Jake immediately met James — the lone guy manning the store. James was really friendly, from Denver and suffering greatly with allergies due to his recent move to Austin. This is James’ first allergy season here, which can be especially bad. He even sounded so congested I thought he was sick. (Side-note: we had a homework assignment given the week before in the small group we attend… which was to pray for someone who was sick… hopefully, someone who doesn’t yet know God). So, right before we are about to leave the futon store my bold, passionate husband simply asks James if he’d be comfortable with us praying for his allergies. I’m like, “Oh my goodness, we’re seriously praying for the futon guy!” We prayed a simple 30 second prayer… and he gets healed!! Right then and there! He looked so shocked (and so did I!). His voice literally started to change as he talked and went back to normal. He said he could breath and his nasal passages were totally opening up. It was really wild. We talked a few minutes about God’s love and His desire to heal us. I asked if he was a Christian and he said yes, he’s Catholic. He told us he would pray for us that night. Amazing!
A couple of weeks later, Felipe stopped by the futon store to see James and see if his allergies were still better. James said he’s been better since that day we prayed for him and that he’s been telling all his friends about the couple who came to pray for him and how God healed him! We’ve invited him to come visit our small group. Please join us in praying for James to find community here in Austin… whether it’s with us or not. And that he’ll always know God’s intimate and very intentional love for him.”
How amazing is that?! God still works miracles, even in Austin Texas.
