Nostalgia

I found my original 7 digit ICQ number from high school (5518461). Did any of you have an ICQ account or am I the only nerd? After I found it I decided to download ICQ but none of my contacts were preserved. That led me to download AIM (Screen name: Blasian2k in case you were wondering) and logging into it I saw that ALL of my contacts were preserved, but nobody was on-line. Reading the screen names of my friends from high school brought back a lot of memories and led me to the gem of an e-mail which is partially listed below.

I was digging around in my student E-mail account from SFA and thought it would be fun to check and see if I could find anything interesting and I found a draft version of an e-mail I had written my first semester in college (Aug 2000) to my friends back in Killeen. For your amusement, an exert from an E-mail entitled “Howdy”.

“Hey guys, well, i made it. I’m in college, and college life is waaaayy different. Today i ate lunch at like 10:30 just for the hell of it, so that was pretty cool. Well since i dont have a computer in my room yet, i’m at the library and using my school email (the internet is down in the library, so i cant use my hotmail account just yet. Feel free to add this addy to your address book or whatever. Man! Talk about being a nobody!! In high school i woulda had a cool car, and be a top dog in ROTC, but here no body cares! I guess that’s cool, in a way, but it’s just a big drop! Yesterday I went to the Wesley Center (it’s a Methodist Student Orgaization) for some free food and to meet some new people. Its wierd, cuz i dont know anybody, but everybody know’s me (as Mike’s little brother). Last night we went out to see a movie (i got dragged to a chick flick, Center Stage) and got back around 11:30…”

Apparently e-mail didn’t have spell check back then… In my defense, this was before I completed freshman English. Actually I think this was my second or third day at SFA (judging from the free meal at Wesley which should have been on a Wednesday). I laughed out loud when I read this and then was immediately transported back in time to freshman year; I wouldn’t want to re-live it but I would LOVE to re-play it (maybe God has it on Tivo). What a wild 7 years it has been.
